If you’re seeking LASIK eye surgery in Delhi, you may be thinking of a future without corrective glasses but you should know that it's not fit for everybody. Read what Delhi’s best LASIK surgeons have to say and see if you are a good candidate and understand what you should consider before making a decision.

Once people get tired of wearing eyeglasses or dealing with tricky contact lenses, they begin to contemplate LASIK surgery as the sole answer. This is not true. LASIK surgery is one of the options for refractive eye surgery and almost all patients at our eye hospital in Dwarka who have laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery have achieved 20/20 vision and even better. However, there are many others whose eyes are better suited for other procedures and are not advised LASIK laser surgery. Before you begin thinking about whether you should opt for LASIK, you can also think of other corrective procedures available.

We provide the best LASIK surgery in Dwarka and our AIIMS-trained expert surgeons have a successful track record: post-surgery complications are rare, and our patients are happy with their results. However, our eye specialists do not always recommend LASIK surgery for everyone.

Using laser corrective procedures, the surface of the eye is reshaped to allow light rays direct focus on the retina. All these procedures are painless and offer great options for independence from glasses or contact lenses.

  1. SMILE

SMILE(Small Incision Lenticule Extension) is the most cutting-edge and advanced type of laser refractive surgery available. The laser makes a lenticule to correct the refractive error of the eye(s) after which the lenticule is extracted via a small incision, making it flapless. The outer corneal layer remains intact, adding to the eye's stability, minimizing dryness, and aiding fast visual recovery. With an incision almost an eighth of the size of a LASIK incision, SMILE eye

surgery is the least risky and results in a more comfortable recovery after the procedure. Persons with contact sports can also choose this procedure as it is flapless. It is also better than LASIK for patients with mildly thin corneas.

  1. Femtosecond Bladeless LASIK

LASIK is the most popular and famous among all the options we offer for correcting vision and with BLADELESS LASIK, there is no sharp object that comes in contact with the eye, no automatic microkeratomes or blades. A second laser is used to create the flap in place of the blade. The laser profile can be aspheric (AAA) or customized (topography-guided or Contoura). The customized laser gives better vision than the best possible with glasses in at least a third of patients.

  1. Surface Ablation (PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy)

In this, the external layer of the cornea is carefully removed and the laser is directed at the exposed surface. The external layer will take three or four days to heal, with moderate pain and blurred vision for a short while. This procedure can be done for eyes with thin corneas.

Theoretically, PRK is considered advantageous for those more likely to be struck in the eye for example in contact sports than a flap procedure like LASIK. But with standard LASIK, the risk of eyeball rupture flap displacement is negligible, so there is probably no real advantage with PRK unless you are joining contact sports or fighting. LASIK is also better than PRK for corrections to more severe myopia. PRK should be preferred in patients with thin corneas (<490 microns) if SMILE is not fitting in your budget.

  1. Phakic Lens Implantation (Staar Visian ICL or IPCL)

This is a good option for eyes that do not qualify for Laser Refractive Surgery (LASIK, SMILE, or PRK) because of very high myopia or nearsightedness (more than -10) or farsightedness (more than +6). In this procedure, a special lens is placed inside the eye to correct the refractive error. No existing lens is removed. It gives exceedingly good results but we need to enter into the eye, unlike the laser refractive procedures.

  1. Bioptics

Bioptics combines one or more of the above techniques to treat nearsightedness or farsightedness. However, this is not an option for people seeking refractive eye surgery.

A screening examination is done before undergoing any kind of laser refractive surgery to ensure the most optimal outcomes for you. Using highly advanced diagnostic exams and imaging, our expert eye doctors provide you with the best eye examination in Dwarka. After the screening, our refractive specialists will explain the different types of laser surgery to you and specify the laser procedure that is most suited for you.
