The most common eye treatments offered at Aakash Healthcare are:
- Cataract:
Cataract causes the lens to become cloudy eventually losing the vision. Cataract surgery is the procedure where the ophthalmologist/eye surgeon removes the affected lens and replaces it with an artificial lens. It is a very common eye problem and also the surgery is very safe. Complications after cataract surgery are rare, and if happen, can be treated successfully. Normally a person can go home on the same day of surgery, but any type of heavy work or risk works is to be avoided for a few days till the doctor allows it to. After cataract surgery, vision starts improving within a few days. Though visions may appear blurry at first as the eye heals, it gets adjusted.
Sometimes, people after cataract surgery might develop a secondary cataract. The medical term used for this common complication is Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO). PCO can be treated with a painless, short-timed procedure called Yttrium Aluminium-Garnet (YAG) LASER capsulotomy. - Refractive Surgery:
Refractive errors like nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, or presbyopia can be treated with refractive surgery, a method of correcting or improving vision. There are various surgical procedures for correcting or adjusting the eye's focusing ability by reshaping the cornea, refractive surgery is one of them. Other procedures are lens implant, LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis), the widely performed vision correction surgery.
If someone wants to decrease their dependence on glasses or contact lenses, refractive surgery is the most recommended procedure. Sometimes, after the refractive surgery, one can still need the glass or lens to achieve the best vision, but the power of glass or lens. There is no single or best method for correcting refractive errors. The best option is decided upon thorough examination and discussion as per the person’s health condition. - Squint Surgery:
Squint, also known as Strabismus, is a disorder of the eye in which the eyes point in different directions. It is more common in young children, but it can happen at any age. This happens in all age groups but seldom can automatically get healed without treatment. If the child is having squint all the time and the child is older than 3 months, if the child is turning their head to one side or keeping one eye closed when looking at things, then treatment is required.
Eye exercises can control eye movement of muscle, sometimes help the eyes work together better. Surgery is done by moving the muscles that control eye movement and the eyes line up correctly. Surgery is recommended when glasses are not fully effective on their own.
Also, surgery can help improve the alignment of the eyes at a later stage but vision problems become permanent if not treated at a young age. Squint can also be a sign of retinoblastoma, a rare form of childhood eye cancer. - Glaucoma:
Glaucoma is an eye condition that damages the optic nerve and the damage is often caused by abnormally high pressure in the eye. It is one of the leading causes of blindness for people above the age of 60. It can happen at any age, but it is more common in older people. Many types of glaucoma have no warning signs until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage.
Once vision is lost, it cannot be recovered, so a regular eye exam is very important. Vision loss can be slowed or prevented if glaucoma is detected early. Glaucoma is caused by damage to the optic nerve. Blind spots in the visual field develop as this nerve deteriorates over time. Glaucoma is mostly genetic. At Aakash Healthcare, Glaucoma can be diagnosed with advanced equipment like OCT, Perimetry, Pachymetry. Surgery is the recommended treatment for advanced glaucoma other than medicines. - Vitreo Retinal Disease:
A large variety of conditions like diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments or tears, macular holes, retinopathy of prematurity, retinoblastoma, uveitis, eye cancer, flashes and floaters, and retinitis pigmentosa can affect the vitreous and retina which are located at the back of the eye. - Oculoplastic surgery:
Plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery of the eyes and related parts of the eye for the problems either by birth or acquired are called occuloplasty. It is done to improve the function, comfort, and appearance of the eye. These include repair of droopy eyelids, repair of tear duct obstructions, orbital fracture repairs, and removal of tumors in and around the eyes.
