Hey there, summer enthusiasts! As the sun shines brighter and the temperatures soar, it's time to gear up for the perfect vacation and some fun in the sun.

Surely, the summertime is a fun time for many and nothing should be allowed to take this fantastic opportunity from you.

But wait, before you rush out to soak up those rays, let's talk about a potential buzzkill - summer allergies. Yes, those pesky triggers that often rain on your parade

Don’t fret! I’ve got down the list of things you can do to keep summer skin allergies at bay and enjoy the summer as you want.

But before diving into this, let us know about the common triggers of summer skin allergies.

As the mercury rises, so does our susceptibility to allergens. During this time, dust particles, pollen, and pollutants are at an all-time high, increasing the risk of getting an allergy.

The sweat your body produces at this time works as the adhesive for these allergens, making them stick to your skin easily. Even we tend to keep the AC temperature very cool, which makes the environment the perfect ground for allergic agents. Add to that the increased growth of insects in the hot weather. These all pile up on your skin health.

But hold on, do not let these triggers put obstacles in your outdoor adventures. Here are some tips to help you avoid the pesky summer allergies:

Be sunscreen savvy: The sun may be our best friend but extreme sunlight is also a top allergen. Incorporate photoprotective measures into your routine. Invest in a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 35 or higher to shield your skin from harmful UV rays.

Not just only the face, apply sunscreen on all the sun-exposed areas, be it the neck, ear or uncovered part of the hands or legs.

If you have any pigmentary skin condition like melasma, you may be advised to use sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher. If you are going outside, especially between 10 am and 4 pm, reapply the sunscreen every 2 hours. Make sure the sunscreen is hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and non-comedogenic.

Dress smart: What you wear has a significant role in summer. Because in summer, we tend to sweat more, which is irritating and the perfect ground for allergens. Opt for lightweight, breathable, light-coloured cotton clothes to absorb sweat and minimise skin irritation. And try to wear full-sleeve clothes.

If you are riding on a two or three-wheeler vehicle, then wear protective sleeves besides applying sunscreen. Always carry an umbrella and a wide-brimmed hat with you. Also, avoid tight-fitting clothes because they can cause irritation and friction in vulnerable areas.

Post-activity care: After hitting the gym or taking a dip in the pool, our skin becomes wet, inviting the allergens. So, make sure to take a shower when you return home. Then, pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Apply a moisturiser on your skin and change the clothes.

Hydration is key: Water is one of the best ways to stay cool in the hot weather. It is not only beneficial for your skin but also for your overall health. Keep yourself hydrated. It prevents your skin from dryness, acne breakouts, itchy skin and toxins.

Maintain a comfortable environment: Since very cool AC temperature is not good for your skin, it is ideal to maintain a comfortable temperature. It is best to set your AC temperature between 23.5°C and 25.5°C during summers.

Bug-proofing: To keep those pesky flying insects at bay, make use of insect-repellent creams and strategically place fly traps around your space.

By following these simple yet effective tips, you can enjoy all the joys of summer without falling prey to allergies. Remember, prevention is better than cure, so keep your guard up and make the most of this vibrant season.
